Introduction to the Department of Physics

The department of Physics was founded in 1958, which currently consists one Departments (the Departments of Applied physics) and one Key Laboratory (Fujian Key Laboratory of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information). Our strong commitment to provide high-quality education and training ensures that our outstanding graduates have top-notch talents, essential for their success, in our fast paced modern society. We hope that all the students can gain significant knowledge and essential skills during their four-year program. For this purpose, our education program has been designed so that students can establish a solid mathematics and physics foundation whilst acquiring much sought-after engineering skills as well. In addition, in order to adapt to rapid economic development of China, the department of applied Physics encourages students to develop their career in the area of optoelectronic technology and new energy and new materials, and to become professionals in the corresponding field after graduation. To fulfill this goal, our curriculum includes both fundamental courses in mathematics and physics and other relevant subjects containing many do-it-yourself experiments. The first two years of major learning basic theory and basic experimental skills, the next two years are diverted to two professional areas: optoelectronics science area and information new material science area, respectively. In the area of optoelectronics science, students mainly study theoretical physics, laser application technology, optoelectronic technology, semiconductor device technology and application, photoelectric sensor, information detection technology and microcomputer application. In the area of new materials science, students mainly study theoretical physics, laser principle and application, semiconductor physics and devices, optical crystal materials and devices, quantum information theory and technology and material calculation and design simulation. The graduates can be engaged in the teaching and research work of Applied Physics and Electronic Science, or be engaged in optoelectronic devices, semiconductor devices, materials science and engineering and other fields or to enterprises engaged in the development and application of technical work.
